wall art :: geometrics

FrogTape5 FrogTape2 FrogTape1Well folks….Angie and I have decided that painting and creating wall art panels is a lot of fun! I saved these two square panels from a previous shelf project a couple of years ago. I knew that I wanted to use them as panels for wall art…but the idea for what I wanted to put on them did not come to fruition until a couple of weeks ago when discussing our monthly FrogTape® project! Angie and I looked over several inspiration pictures and decided on our own design. We had so much fun creating these that we decided to do more in the very near future!

We chose a geometric design for this first installation but as you well know…the possibilities are endless as far as what designs you can create. These panels are simple squares cut from a 4×8 pine sheet of plywood, and we used paints and stains that we had around the studio….so the cost was very minimal. The full tutorial will be up on the FrogTape® blog later on today so if you would like to see the full process check it out!

These beauties are available for sale, so if you fancy them let us know!

Simple Pleasures :: Plus Signs

FrogTape1 frogtape8 frogtape9 frogtape10We have been wanting to add a little zing and bling to the doors in the shop, and so we grabbed a roll of FrogTape® and some pitch black milk paint , and in about an hour we were done!

What a difference a few well placed plus signs can make…… and how awesome is it that you can create any stencil you want using tape?! Pretty awesome indeed!

The full tutorial will be up on the FrogTape® blog today, so be sure to check it out! Get creative, and see what walls or doors you can create big impact with! We had all of these simple materials on hand, and pretty sure you all would too! Make something fun today, and enjoy the change!

Faces to put with names :: Knack Book 2

athens, ga athens, gaA few weeks ago, I wrote this post about the awesome team of women that I am working with on the Knack book two project, and I thought it would be nice to put faces with names.

Here is the lineup from left to right {in the bottom photo}:

Jessica Barley – Styling + Props

Angie Thompson – Knack store manager + all around creative master

Barb Blair {Me} – I do what I do

Julie Dodds – Florals

Paige French – Photographer

There is no ” i ” in team…….and I am so thankful for this.

living with :: Constantia

Knack Collage

Our driftwood desk, Constantia, is a thing of beauty with her deep dark wood peeking through layers of milk paint and her burnished brassy octopus handles.  She’d feel right at home among these found and fashioned treasures. From a vintage faux bois desk organizer to catch all our desk essentials, to signage that reminds us that we’re able, this is a space we’d be happy to work in.

How would you style Constantia in your home?

Striped Candle Cubes

frogtapecandles6 frogtapecandles1 frogtapecandles11 frogtapecandles2 frogtapecandles5 frogtapecandles13We had a ton of fun creating these candle cubes made from wood scraps that we had left over from a previous table project. Everything gets saved around the Knack shop and workshop {especially wood scraps!} and when we were trying to decide what projects to make for the FrogTape® post this month, these candle cubes came to mind. It has been a couple of years since we have made any candle holders, and these were created with a lot more detail than in the past. Candle cubes are perfect for gift giving, and summer entertaining…and are SUPER easy on the budget! An 8 x 4 x 4 fence post is about $8… and depending on the varying sized cubes you create….you can make about 20 cubes per post! Woo Hoo! You can create away, and come up with so many interesting patterns.

My full tutorial on how to make these colorful cubes will be up on the FrogTape® blog Wednesday May 21st, so be on the lookout for that! {I will try to remind you!} We have another project up our sleeve for this month as well, and it involves walls….so we can’t wait to show you that one!

Speaking of projects…….FrogTape® is running a contest promotion right now called Earn Your Stripes! To enter, you will need to create a project using FrogTape… showing before, during and after shots… and get your submission in by July 1st. Every entry will receive a roll of shape tape {which is totally cool}, but the GRAND PRIZE is $ 5,000.00 you guys!! {who couldn’t use a little bit of that?!} So get on it, and create an awesome project using FrogTape! The official rules are here, the most FAQ’s are here, and the entry link and further info are here!

Hope you have had a great start to your week!

Barb Blair

p.s. Isn’t Angie the cutest in her thrifted cut offs and hat? Angie helped style this shoot and created the flower arrangement…..she’s amazing like that!

Monday Memories

Monday7 Monday1 Monday3 Monday2 Monday4 Monday8 Monday5 Monday6 Monday9

I have been hard at work in the studio prepping and painting pieces of furniture for book 2, completing photo shoots, organizing and nailing down locations for the styled shoots, gathering props, and designing. It has been extremely busy, but so exciting! The furniture designs that I have dreamed up for this book are really special to me and it is so rewarding to see them come to life.

Tomorrow is a really exciting day, and marks a whole new chapter for Knack! Angie Thompson, who has been working with me part time {on weekends and special events} for the past year and a half, will start her full time job as Knack’s store manager and creative assistant! I cannot even tell you how excited we both are to start this next chapter for Knack and we very much look forward to the weeks, months and years ahead! This is one of those moments I have dreamed about for a very long time….and during this exciting transition time…..my mind can’t help but wander.

These furniture memories featured here today are all from 2011/2012……and it is always so cool for me to look back…..while looking forward. I hope you enjoy these memories….maybe some of you remember these when they were brand new….maybe these are completely new to some of my new friends and readers……..but I hope that these photos inspire you and put a smile on your face today.

I know my smile can’t be erased off my face at the moment……

Barb

Cream and Navy Stripes + Brass bunny = “Franchon”

franchon1 franchon2 franchon3 franchon4

When one of my pickers brought this little piece to the shop to see if I was interested in purchasing her, I instantly fell in love with her size, shape and detail.

The character of Franchon is just so sweet and perfect. The round and soft curves, the little stacked feet, the drawer, the shelves, the side slots. Franchon packs quite a bit of storage and design in her small frame…..and I decided to celebrate that with four inch cream and navy stripes.

The brass bunny head knob has been calling my name for months now, and I knew that it would be the final detail needed to complete this design. Of course, the gorgeous flowers created by Julie Dodds of Willow Florals make this situation fresh and beautiful. When Julie walked in the door with this arangement, my stomach literally flip flopped…..and my soul groaned….literally…I am not just saying that. Fresh flowers….especially ones as diverse and colorful as this…..really make me joyful. You will be seeing lots more of Julie’s work, as she is the floral stylist for Knack book number two! Yay!

I hope all of you are well……and enjoying Spring break, or whatever it is that this week holds for you!

{p.s. Franchon is available for sale at the shop…..but if she doesn’t get snatched up this week….she will find a home with me. This one is tugging at my heart}

xo,

Barb
