I wanted to share just a few photographs from our lake vacation this past week. It was four days of complete relaxation {minus my phone being gobbled up by the lake…but once I buried my head in my husbands chest, cried about the stupidity of it all, and got mad at myself for being careless, I was over it} and we had the most fun we have had in a while. The weather was so beautiful….. it was mid 60’s to low 80’s the entire time and very low humidity, which is a dream for this time of year here in the south!

You know how you have those awesome trips where everyone gets along great, weather is perfect, the food is delicious, and the friendships and memories just nurture your soul? Well, that was this trip. We jet skied, went for many boat rides, tubed, wake boarded, kayaked, and water skied. You name it, we did it….and we did it until the last bit of sunshine peeked below the horizon.

I tried something new on this trip! I was challenged by my friend “J” to try wake boarding and I literally had butterflies in my stomach just thinking about it! Every muscle in my body hurt from my very first wake boarding experience…but it was so worth every muscle pain. I was so afraid to try, and almost defeated myself before ever trying because I knew it was going to be tough. I have never snow boarded before because I don’t like the thought of both feet being strapped down, so the thought of not only having both feet strapped to a board but then also being yanked up by a boat just had me questioning my sanity. I lived to tell about it, and I got up not once, not twice, but THREE times! It was so great to conquer that little nagging ” you can’t do this” voice in my head…..and to hear my friends and family cheering me on from the boat ahead. My husband and my son also got up on the wake board for their first time as well! Woot!

One of my favorite things has to be the tubing though……that moment of sheer panic when you hit the “vortex wave of death” {created by crazy boat driving friend!} and go airborne…..yeah, it’s pretty dang amazing! It was such good times. I am so thankful for the beauty of these memories that were just written across my heart forever.

Have a great weekend you guys!

    Dionne Woods, It was so wonderful!….and how fantastic that you are headed to the lake now! I hope you and the family have a super relaxing time, and enjoy being together! xo

  4. Oh your vacation sounds like a slice of heaven. Those type of vacations where everything falls into place are paradise. Here I sit, first day of summer vacation, listening to my twins fight about who gets to flip the pancakes, now who is watching what on TV, and tired from the teenagers who all slept over last night on our trampoline, decided it would be a good idea to come in and make SPAM and hashbrowns at 4:00am. The fire alarm went off, the whole house woke up, Mark gave up on sleep and went to the gym then work. Summer, here we come!!!!!! Can I go to the lake by myself?

    Wakeboarding. I am SO IMPRESSED! I have tried for two summers now with my sister’s family’s boat. I try, and I try, and I try, and keep getting up, only to fall right over. The last time, my whole body was so tired from all the trying, I had to throw in the towel, I think for good. Blaming it on my height……I love tubing the best too, especially when the boat gets going really fast and the tube goes flying. That is exhilarating

    I am sure you are well rested and energized, can’t wait to see what you create next. -K.

      Karen, You never cease to totally crack me up! I love how much you truly enjoy your family and the stories are always so great! The 4:00 fire alarm and the smell of fried SPAM would do me in too!! Oh my, but teenagers are so fun and hilarious! Oh to have that reckless abandon again to cook SPAM at 4:00 in the morning and sleep on a trampoline!

      As far as the wake boarding goes….you better not give up!! I just will not let you! {wink!} I totally know what you mean about trying and trying to get up and since you are using every muscle in your body it just fatigues really easy. I had the “shakes” so bad after my first few tries. BUT, if you are getting up…that is half the battle girl!…..and then my friend “J” told me once you are up in order not to flood the board you have got to use that back foot as a rudder of sorts and point that board toward the boat. It was so hard for me to not stand straight like when I water ski…..but instead getting my body twisted and jutting out my right hip {yeah baby!} in order to keep the board from fighting the boat! It is hard for me to remember everything, and let me tell you…. the whole right side of my body was the sorest it has been in a long time from all of that craziness!

      I do feel so rested…and the piece I am painting in the studio today is a reflection of that! Hopefully it will be up on Monday! xo

  5. Welcome to the wakeboarding club! I know, I know, you’re probably completely shocked that I’ve wakeboarded before. I’m pretty sure I shocked myself, ha! So glad that you had a nice time, that your phone had insurance and is replaced, and I especially love the picture of the white, coiled rope 🙂

      Sarah Kate……how did I not know this about you?! I am a bit shocked…in the best way….and it makes me proud to know that you have it in you! :} It was very, very needed and a wonderful relaxing time….I am super thankful for the insurance because my other option was to go back to my old cracked 3GS….and I totally would have done it…but I am so glad I didn’t have to! :}

      Isn’t that rope coil awesome? Our friend “J” grew up on the water and his dad taught him to always make sure his ropes were like that. Isn’t that cool? He did it every single time with all of the different ropes. Should have photographed them all. xo

    I really want to go for a lake trip this summer — now that my kids are swimmers and we can actualy enjoy the lake rather than me being a basket case worrrying that a toddler is going to topple into the lake! And one of my summer “goals” is to jump off a dock into the water, preferably holding my daugher’s hand … much like your picture there … Would you mind sharing the lake/general area that you like? Even a specific rental cabin if you know of any good ones? Thanks!

    • Barb Blair

      sha, I am totally with you on the relaxing by the lake “now that all the kiddos can swim” feeling! I remember those days well, and even though my kids are teenagers now it seems like just yesterday!

      We stayed at the Stonehedge condos on Lake Keowee. I think there are some there available for rent….but I am not sure since we stayed with our friends in their condo. They do not rent theirs out to the public, but it seemed like there were some empty ones up there. I am not sure about cabins either….but I am sure if you look up Lake Keowee rentals you will come up with a bunch of stuff. It is so beautiful there…I highly recommend it!

      I hope you get to jump off that dock….and have a wonderful time at the lake!
